Community First

What is Community First
Community First is an £80m government-funded initiative that will run for four years, until March 2015. The programme will help communities come together to identify their strengths and local priorities in order to plan for their future and become more resilient. It will fund both new and existing community groups.
Ryhope where we are based has been awarded over £50,000 from the fund and work is under way to ensure that the allocation is sent wisely within the ward.

Why is Ryhope Community Association involved
Ryhope Community Association successfully applied to be the panel partner for Ryhope, a requirement for Community First funding to be given to an area, we were very pleased to be awarded the panel partner and will ensure it is distributed to the most appropriate organisations both new and old.

The Panel have agreed the following priorities for the Ryhope Ward:

  • Embrace sport and activities that lead to healthy lifestyles
  • Improve local community projects and facilities and the local environment
  • Address increasing needs of young people
  • Identify and improve where needed access to services for older and vulnerable people
  • Enabling local people to come together to have an influence on what happens in their area
